Memoirs of an old New Year

I came into this world with such pomp and acclaim
With people from everywhere shouting my name
Fireworks flashed and lit up the sky
I felt so proud, wiped a tear from my eye

All 'round the world people vowed to do good
And do all the things that they knew that they should
They were happy and eager to do me one proud
As they made resolutions, and said them out loud

But the cheer it died down just as quick as can be
And pretty soon all had forgotten ‘bout me
The days turned to weeks then to months, soon a year
With promises broken and no more good cheer

Now plans have been made about parties anew
And the people are planning their vows to renew
There’s shopping and wond’ring about what to wear
As people look forward to some other New Year

I sit and remember the songs that were sung
The Champaign, the parties, the trimmings that hung
And what did I do to be treated so cold?
All that I did was to simply grow old.

This is one of my entries for the contest from anthrochallenge.deviantart.com… : Anthro Challenge #103 - A New Year

Given the challenge of doing something anthropomorphic with a New Year, I wondered what it might be like if a New Year was human or could at least evaluate the experience of being real, with a personified twist. Most people seem to look forward to a new year, but what if you were the year being replaced? People’s excitement or focus on any New Year is very short and is ultimately to be replaced after exactly one year, which leaves each old New Year languishing in relative obscurity for the remainder of its life span. It was quite interesting to try to put into perspective what it might be like to begin life with such celebrity status and to then have such a short time in the spotlight.

I would just like to say a special thanks to anthrochallenge for running these monthly challenges and communityrelations for being a sponsor. I feel so honoured for one of my entries to have been selected let alone win.  I took a chance and went with a non traditional viewpoint (sad/depressing) which some people might not be able to relate to, so it just goes to show that you should never discount a less conventional viewpoint simply because it is different to the norm.  If you have not done so yet, check out their page and give their latest challenge a try, what are you waiting for, go, do it, now!!!  Are you still here, go, create something magical.  => anthrochallenge.deviantart.com…
